Esther Roth

Biography

Esther Roth was born in Zurich. She had classical musical studies in piano and contrabass and studied in Italy, Germany and Spain. She experiments in music theatre, musique d'environnement and constructs her own sound machines. She took first prize at the international sound machine competition in Dornbirn, Austria. She makes performances, exhibitions, sound installations, concerts and campaigns nationally and internationally and produces compositions for various chamber music ensembles, choir and orchestra. She has had invitations to the following festivals: Milanopoesia, Veneziapoesia, Dias De Poesia y Accion Canary Islands, Madrid, Malaga, Muenchen, Salzburg, Pavia, Paris, Prague, Befriended with the group ZAJ (Juan Hidalgo, Walter Marchetti). From 1989 until 1991 she had a residency in Madrid and in 1995 she won the scholarship for the ‘Cité Internationale des Arts’ in Paris. ‘poésie bleue Zurich-Madrid 1997‘. Culture prize of the city of Rorschach. Member of the improvisation trio “kraater” with Alfred Zimmerlin and Pierre Thoma. She collaborates regularly with writers and visual artists. She lives and works in Gontenschwil.
