John Gian

Biography

1949. Poet, performer, visual artist, organizer. In 1979, he spent an extended period in the United States, where he met the leading figures of the Beat Generation. Since 1977, he has participated in numerous international events, with individual readings and performances as well as collaborations with other artists and poets (Rita Degli Esposti, Franco Beltrametti, Gianni Curreli, Tom Raworth, Esther Roth, Pierre Thoma, PAM Paolo Mazzuchelli, ...), including: One World Poetry (Amsterdam 1978, 1979, 1983), Italian Cultural Institute (Budapest, 1992, 2001), Veneziapoesia (1996, 1997), Percorsipoesia Pavia (1997, 1998, 1999), Venice Art Biennale (1999, 2001, 2003, 2005, 2009), La Nave dei Folli (Locarno, 1999, 2000), Architecture Biennale (Venice, 2006), Romapoesia (Rome, 1999), Italian Cultural Institute (Tel Aviv, 2003), Poesié Goutte d’Or (Paris, 2019, 2021). His works have been published and translated in anthologies and literary and art journals in Italy and abroad.
Recent publications: -P- (1-31), the Writer 2017; Tensioni, ‘round midnight editions 2020. He currently lives in Venice.
